16 2024 | Holly Hills Directory Driving in Circles: How to Use a Roundabout In 2020, a roundabout was added to the intersection of Grand and Holly Hills drives in Carondelet Park to improve safety and traffic flow in and out of the Carondelet Park RecPlex. In theory, roundabouts are simple to understand, but they can be difficult to navigate if you’re unfamiliar. Upon approaching the intersection, a vehicle yields to traffic already in the roundabout. Vehicles already in the roundabout have the right-of-way. No matter what direction drivers are coming from, they must yield until it is safe to enter the roundabout. When there is a safe amount of space, you can enter. When two cars reach the intersection at the same time, the one on the right has the right-of-way. Once in the roundabout, circle the road until you reach your desired exit. For example, if you are traveling south on Grand Drive toward Loughborough and you want to turn right towards the park, take the first exit; to keep going straight, take the second exit; to go left toward the Carondelet Park RecPlex take the third; and to make a U-turn toward Grand Avenue, the fourth. Remember, a yield sign is not a stop sign—if there are no cars in the roundabout, look around for pedestrians and bicyclists and proceed in. Source: AAA
