✯ 2025 | SOULARD STAR DIRECTORY 59 HERE ARE SEVERAL REMINDERS ABOUT THE USE AND CARE OF CITY RECEPTACLES: • Place only yard waste, such as grass clippings, small limbs and leaves, in green yard waste refuse containers. These are identified with “yard waste only” stickers. Do not place large limbs in the container that protrude through the opening. Protruding limbs prohibit the container from being emptied. • Place only household trash in brown trash containers.These are identified with “no yard waste” stickers. • Place only recyclable items in the blue receptacles. No plastic bags! Plastic bags are processed differently and will get stuck in the machinery. Recycle plastic bags at the grocery store. For more information about what can and can’t be recycled, go to stlouis-mo.gov/government/departments and selecting recycling • Refuse containers • Should not be moved • Should not be filled beyond their capacity • Are not for bulk trash such as stoves, furniture and appliances, or any item over three (3) feet long • Are not for flammable liquids or hazardous materials or tires • Lids should be kept closed.Any protruding items that prohibit the lids from closing cannot be placed in the container • Bulk items should not be set against or within three (3) feet of the refuse container. • The refuse containers are city property and are provided for resident use only. Residents are expected to keep the area around the refuse containers clean and sanitary.Any violations of these rules could result in your container not being emptied as scheduled. ROLL-OUT CARTS Some areas without alleys are given roll-out carts, which can be wheeled to the street for pick-up three times a week. Each individual home has its own roll-out cart; they are shared at multi-family dwellings. The cart must be rolled to the street on designated days no later than 5:30 am.The handle on the cart must be on the street side for pick-up. Roll-out carts may be rolled into the street if parked cars interfere with collection.The cart should be returned no later than 11 pm the same evening. Carts must be stored so that they are not visible from the street. The same do’s and dont’s that apply to refuse containers also apply to roll-out carts. BULK TRASH COLLECTION The City of St. Louis has a regular monthly collection of bulk items. Place no more than three items behind your own property by 6 am on Monday of the week scheduled for collection in your area. Place small or loose items in a container or bundle. Refrigerator doors must be removed; other large items need not be dismantled. Call 314-622-4800 for further information on which week bulk items are collected in your area. Items will be collected one day during your designated week. RECYCLING The Refuse Division provides recycling centers throughout the city. Many of our firehouses and library branches are drop-off sites for cans, plastic, glass and newspaper.The Refuse Division also offers educational programs for schools, camps and youth groups in the city, and they can also help you set up a paper recycling program. For more information on the recycling sites or the Refuse Division’s educational programs, call their recycling manager at 314-353-8877. The city’s largest recycling drop-off site is the Brightside recycling center located at 1660 S. Kingshighway.Their hours of operation are 9 am to 5 pm Monday through Saturday.
