10 2024 | St. Louis Hills Community Directory Photo courtesy of Rick Palank THE GATEWAY CUP St Louis’ premier cycling event, the Gateway Cup pro/am bicycle racing series has made numerous appearances in St. Louis Hills on Labor Day weekend. The streets bordering Francis Park turn into a bicycle race track, with cyclists hurtling around corners at speeds averaging 30 miles per hour. In previous years, the race drew athletes (novice and professional) from 25 states, coast-to-coast, as well as a professional team all the way from Colombia! The children of St. Louis Hills also get a chance to register for the Kid’s Race, which allows them to ride on the course and compete for medals and prizes. HOUSE TOUR Every two years, the St. Louis Hills Neighborhood Association conducts a house tour. Ten homes (and typically a church or rectory) are featured. Past tour homes have included the first home built in St. Louis Hills (1929), and the former home of baseball Hall-of-Famer, Stan Musial. People who take the tour always comment about the unique architectural designs and materials (brick construction with tile or slate roofs) and other luxurious elements such as stained-glass windows. In addition to these, the St. Louis Hills Neighborhood Association features other annual events and programs including a Holiday Party, Easter Egg Hunt, Christmas Lighting and Lawn and Garden competitions. SLHNA also awards a scholarship to a St. Louis Hills eighth grader for one year of high school. The St. Louis Hills Neighborhood Association and Friends of Francis Park host the Annual Francis Park Christmas Tree lighting ceremony.
