22 2024-25 | University City Community Directory COMMUNITY SERVICES LIBRARY The University City Public Library is open seven days a week and houses a collection of more than 190,000 items, including books, 250 periodical titles and a large collection of DVDs, music CDs and audiobooks, as well as thousands of ebooks and downloadable ebooks. Its staff of professional librarians will help you locate materials and use the library’s services. Reference service is available in person, by telephone or by email. The Youth Services department offers many special programs for children, story hours throughout the year and a summer reading club. ADDITIONAL SERVICES INCLUDE: • Public-access internet terminals and WiFi access • Notary services • A comprehensive collection of electronic databases and online resources • A large auditorium and smaller rooms for community meetings • An archive of University City history • A gallery featuring professional juried art shows and community exhibits • A technology makerspace including a recording studio and 3D printer • Special collections in literacy, English as a second language and books in other languages. Any resident is entitled to a free library card. When applying for your card, a picture ID and personal identification showing your current address are required. City Police Department delivers high-quality law enforcement service to the citizens of U. City, working directly with the community it serves. The Crime Prevention Unit maintains an active liaison with neighborhood groups and block units and has created Neighborhood Watch programs. UCPD offers a free out-of-town notification system for residents and offers many community engagement events throughout the year. In addition, the Police Department provides security audits for businesses and residences to make recommendations to ensure the maximum security possible. The audits are FREE of charge to University City residents and business owners. Learn more at ucitymo.org . FIRE & EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES U. City provides 24-hour fire protection to its citizens. Fire personnel, most of whom also are licensed and trained paramedics, are equipped to handle a variety of calls including fires, rescues, medical emergencies and hazardous situations. Fire prevention is a major mission of the U. City Fire Department. The UCFD is equally involved in fire education, providing awareness as well as supplying and installing smoke detectors to any citizen who needs one.
