Originally formed in 1977 as the Southwest Garden Neighborhood Improvement Association, and now called Southwest Garden Neighborhood Association (SWGNA) is led by a nine-person Board of Directors. Membership is comprised of people living within the neighborhood boundaries. SWGNA is a volunteer-based nonprofit organization that provides and promotes programs, services, and activities aimed at encouraging connections between neighbors and fostering civic engagement in our diverse community. Our goals for the 2024-2025 fiscal year include continuing to: • Collaborate with our Alderman, Neighborhood Improvement Specialist, and SLMPD Liaison • Improve the quality of life in the neighborhood • Revitalize our garden spaces and neighborhood signs • Facilitate improvements to Sublette Park • Partner with Neighborhood Foresters to maintain the Urban Tree Canopy in our neighborhood Meetings General Membership Meetings are held quarterly on the 4th Monday of the month in January, April, July, and October. They begin at 7 pm at the St. Louis Activity Center, 5602 Arsenal St. Meetings typically include updates from our Alderman, the Neighborhood Improvement Specialist, and our SLMPD liaison as well as information related to the neighborhood. Membership meetings are open to the public. Paid members have voting privileges. Membership Membership is open to individuals and families working and/or living in the neighborhood as well as neighborhood businesses.
