Lafayette Square Parlor Tour 2024

30 | Lafayette Square Parlor Tour | 2024 This house was built for Herman Niemann, the owner of a saloon at Fifth and Washington, in 1883. Before moving here Niemann lived in the building above his saloon. Like many wealthy residents in the neighborhood at the time, Niemann had the house built in the Second Empire style with a limestone fronted facade. He continued to live in the house until 1908.The current owners have lived in the home for five years. ThisVictorian-style residence features Art Nouveau influences, as noted in the decorative motifs throughout the front of the home. This is somewhat unusual and is perhaps related to the pottery business that once existed on the corner of this street. There is a Bob Cassilly fence overlooking the backyard. Cassilly was a sculptor who once lived on the block and much of his work can be seen in the neighborhood, throughout the city and beyond. Notably, he founded City Museum here in St. Louis. The current owners have extensively renovated the interior of the home in an attempt to restore it to its original form while also incorporating personal preferences such as organic and natural function and decor. Kitchen renovations included green cabinets, marble countertops and antique glass pantries.Wood tones in the floor and fireplace of the living room, along with pocket doors, provide a warm and comfortable room that’s perfect for their heirloom Persian rug. Not to be missed is the “Harry Potter” closet found - where else? - under the stairs! 9 1907 Hickory Tyler Fraum & Karishma Furtado
