Lafayette Square Parlor Tour 2024

32 | Lafayette Square Parlor Tour | 2024 10 1205 Dolman Travis & Brooke Gocken This brand new home was constructed to resemble Second Empire style buildings around the neighborhood, with apparent influence from the nearby Moritz Schuster mansion at 18th and Hickory Street. Originally on this site, there was a two family flat with a gabled roof built in the mid 19th century vernacular style. In 1874 Robert M. Hubbard, a salesman, was listed at the address but homes were built in this block as early as the 1860s.The original building was demolished around 1972 or 1973. This is the newest home on tour, built in 2022 by the homeowners (including their children!) in ModernVictorian style with input from the architectural firm of Kendrick Design Company. Of interest is an architectural feature of the home’s construction, in that it was built with ICF (Insulated Concrete Form). All four of the outside walls are styrofoam blocks filled with concrete so it’s not a traditional stick built home. This makes it a more energy efficient home while still fitting in perfectly with the historical nature of the neighborhood. The open floor plan is inviting and welcoming, from the impressive front doors to the back doors that open onto the manicured yard.Attention to every detail is apparent in this home. The owners designed and built the home to be comfortable for their family of four, with plenty of space to entertain family and friends. This is their second home on Dolman. They felt drawn to the neighborhood by the beautiful architecture, but stayed because of the neighbors! Holiday decorations include an Advent wreath with different sized candles representing the weeks leading up to Christmas.
