St. Louis Art Fair 2018

STUDENT ART AFICIONADOS The Student Art Aficionados program offers St. Louis metro area fifth through twelfth grade classes the chance to participate in a hands-on art buying opportunity while teaching transferable professional and life skills. Student participants are given a budget to buy art for their school and for the Saint Louis Art Fair traveling Public Art Collection, presented by Emerson. They work together to determine a strategy, while considering the art’s portability, durability, need for framing or lighting and other factors. Student teams attend the Saint Louis Art Fair, purchase the art and take part in a Showcase Event following the Art Fair to discuss how and why they chose each piece. During the program, students have a chance to acquire and exhibit transferable professional skills, including budgeting, teamwork, strategic thinking and public speaking skills. 2018 PARTICIPATING SCHOOLS: Carr Lane Visual Performing Arts Middle School Fairview Elementary Fort Zumwalt South High School Holy Cross Academy Middle School Maplewood Richmond Heights Elementary McCluer North High School Meramec Elementary School Nipher Middle School Northside Community School Normandy High School Pershing Elementary RoHan Woods School The Wilson School UNDERGROUND CIRCUS “Alice” is a half hour acrobatic and dance extravaganza created by the Underground Circus from Vancouver, Canada. Performed on a giant arc 16 feet long and 16 feet high, it takes 30 feet to rock along its entire length. Its inner surface is the perfect playground for slides and dance; the outer frame is an acrobatic jungle. The Underground Circus Company’s skills displayed on “Alice” combine acrobatics, dance, aerial work, contortion, gymnastics and circus. The 500 pound apparatus is surprisingly responsive to the slightest movement of the performer, which makes it the perfect stage to showcase both lyrical dance and heart stopping acrobatics.
