Students in this program participate in a personalized curriculum prior to the Saint Louis Art Fair. During this time, they research, calculate, examine, discuss, and formulate plans for purchasing art before the weekend of the Art Fair. During the fair, students use their predetermined budget while working together to select and purchase art for installation in their school as well as artwork for the Saint Louis Art Fair’s traveling Public Art Collection. The Public Art Collection, presented by Emerson, displays in schools, hospitals, and community centers throughout the Saint Louis area. When selecting artworks for purchase, the students must utilize their pre-planning to consider the need for framing, lighting, portability, and other factors that would affect the art in their school or the Public Art Collection. Throughout the program students sharpen professional skills that are applicable to other careers and facets in life such as public speaking, teamwork, and budgeting. Following the Saint Louis Art Fair, the students convene at a Showcase Event to discuss their process and reasoning regarding the purchasing of artwork at the fair. Images from 2017 SAA Program.
