The slender bricks emblematic of midcentury homes had ancient beginnings. They are called ‘Roman bricks’ because these were used in construction prior to Rome, but were definitely adopted by the empire. They were introduced into building construction at the beginning of the 20th century. The bricks are usually longer than other modern bricks. Roman bricks used in the United States typically had dimensions of 4 by 2 by 12 inches, but they come in a variety of lengths, widths and thicknesses. The primary bedroom layers texture and form in a neutral black and white palate using wallpaper, linens, and flooring. An en suite bathroom and walk-in closet provide convenience and added luxury. A sunny backyard patio hosts the full outdoor kitchen and entertainment area. The relaxing seating area is flanked by Molly’s raised vegetable gardens – with the healthiest tomato plants in St. Louis Hills. Berry bushes and fruit trees are just getting established. The laundry is equipped with organized shelving that holds each family member’s own laundry basket. An additional room acts as an office or spare bedroom. The entire space feels bright and happy. Between school, sports, activities and work this family is always on the go. They’ve created a home that definitely supports their busy, happy life.
