16 • St. Louis Hills House Tour • 2023 6446 Westway David and Bree Saunders knew they wanted space for their young family with three boys to be able to grow and thrive. When 6446 Westway became available, they definitely envisioned the home’s potential. Their creativity with the use of space, combined with Bree’s interior design talent, transformed the 1950’s house into a sophisticated, yet fun, home. Bree said the complete remodel of the 1970s-era interior went down to the studs. Room placement now reflects floorplans with balanced use of open areas for gathering, and private areas for work or study. Care was taken to preserve special traditional features. The home’s stained glass windows have variations of gem-colored shields. The front door has one of the stained glass windows as well. The dark wood flooring has the feel of rough-hewn planks, which pairs with light walls and large windows. The main room were the family gathers has elegant touches, but is also totally accessible to three young boys for, you know, just being young boys. House floor plans usually place the primary bedroom on the main floor, separated from areas of hustle and bustle. The original living room was in the part of the house where it made most sense to
