Sheldon Vol2 PINK

Not only did its namesake pass away before completing construction, but for decades, Sheldon ghost stories have swirled in the community like the windswept petals of marigolds on an ofrenda. Creaks, whispers and flickering lights are commonplace clichés for any historic theater—as well-worn as velvet seats themselves. But until now, The Sheldon’s dance with death has never been quite so…raucous. What’s rousing our spirits? Los Angeles-based Chicano band Las Cafeteras and their new genre- bending show, Hasta La Muerte. An homage to Día de los Muertos, Hasta La Muerte layers the band’s signature patina of Afro-Mexican rhythms, old-school hip-hop flow and traditional instrumentation onto the customary Day of the Dead celebration. The result is an immersive, multisensory experience that transports visitors south of the Rio Grande and through the thinning of the veil, to a celebration of life, memory, love, loss and of course, the music that we use to express it all. Las Cafeteras transforms The Sheldon into the streets of small-town Mexico with a celebratory- meets-macabre show that has one foot in the grave…and the other vigorously toe-tapping along.
