Non-parallel walls in the Concert Hall and many curved features in the décor focus and project sound throughout the Hall. There are no 90-degree angles! The walls are made of a type of plaster common in 1912 that contains more air than modern plaster. Pine wood paneling behind the stage and throughout the Hall reflect sound, augmented by slate rock behind the paneling to reflect higher frequencies. An open area under the stage and extending under the audience creates a resonance area to transmit lower frequencies. The over-100-year-old pile of dirt at ground level provides a “softer landing” for the sounds.
