Evan, a sculptor, and Stacey, a licensed professional engineer, used architectural spaces and sculptural objects as the lens to look back at their childhood experiences and reconcile their pasts. Jump, Twist or Dive! also investigates accessibility, the “uncanny nature of memories” and how those memories and these types of environments shaped their understanding of who they are and how they navigate the world. The exhibit transforms the gallery into a play area, complete with sculptures that form a playground-like space. The likenesses of unusable playground objects emphasize the nature of memories and how memories are both viscerally real yet strikingly distinct for each person. Through a collaborative process combining their different backgrounds of art and science, Evan and Stacey’s work allows viewers the chance to meditate on what it means to play, even as an adult. While based on personal experience, Evan and Stacey say that Jump, Twist or Dive! is not meant to push any specific message, but rather meant to be a space where the viewer’s own experiences can be remembered and validated. “What would I say to my younger self?” YES DIVING T h r e e o f t h e s c u l p t u r e s r e s e m b l e o b j e c t s w e u s e f o r p l a y , w h i l e t h e b e n c h i s m e a n t f o r y o u a s t h e v i e w e r t o s i t a n d r e fl e c t o n y o u r o w n e x p e r i e n c e s a s a c h i l d . “Is there Re-Entry?” 30 VOL. 02
