For years, stories of Mudmaids have been passed down as mere myths and legends. But for the first time, the full details of their history are being displayed for you to decide. Featuring artifacts from Pattie Chalmers, the Mudmaid Museum exhibition unravels records that recount when Mudmaid apparitions once called American waterways home. The Artist Behind the Antiques Pattie Chalmers grew up and attended art school in Winnipeg, Canada, and received her B.F.A. in printmaking from the University of Manitoba in 1994. Moving to the States in 2001, Chalmers then acquired her M.F.A. in ceramics from the University of Minnesota. She has since exhibited art on five continents, in six countries and in 34 states. Chalmers’ most recent work, one of six solo exhibitions in the last eight years, was the exhibit Every Thing and More, which displayed at the Craft Alliance in St. Louis and Imperfect Ramblings at Merwin Gallery at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Illinois. Chalmers shares her gifts in more ways than exhibitions alone—she has taught at the University of Minnesota, Ohio University and Southern Illinois University in Carbondale where she is currently a professor. Mudmaid Museum is on display at The Sheldon Art Galleries through January 20, 2024.
