“When I arrived here there were three
(all living) Honorary Life-time board
members: Audrey Gaddis, Arlie Berry
and Annie Maude Kennedy Eddy,”
remembers Gene. “By 1992 all three
of the earlier life-time members had
died; Irene Menos and Eunagene Pohlig
were added at the 90th anniversary
celebration. Then Bob and Donna
Puyear were added in 2002.” Arlie
Berry was the first Honorary Lifetime
Board Member; Ex Officio members are
the Women’s Board President and the
Gateway Central and Gateway Regional
Districts of the Missouri Conference.

Taking the new fundraising directive
from the United Way to heart, the
Board, at Donna Puyear’s suggestion,
and with the cooperation of the
Women’s Board, arranged to have an
auction. Board member Irene Menos
arranged for the quilting blocks and
began in 1987 an
Annual Patchwork
Auction and
Bazaar tradition
that lasted fifteen
years. Under
Irene’s leadership,
volunteers from
each of the
participating
churches cross-
stitched a block
for a quilt that she
then painstakingly
assembled. The
quilt became the
centerpiece for
the auction that
featured numerous
handcrafted items,
including other
quilts that were
donated, bakery
items, baby goods,
